108 Sun Salutations for the New Year

You’re welcome to honor and celebrate the new moon through a traditional meditative practice of 108 sun salutations. It is a wonderful opportunity to cleanse, remove our layers and protection mechanisms, turn on our inner light, and set intention for the Lunar year ahead. This time, the sequence we’ll be practicing is of the traditional sun salutation (and not what we know from the Ashtanga method). More details below.
108 sun salutations-inpage

The mala of 108 repetitions of the sun salutation enables focus of the mind, and according to the yogi tradition, getting closer to our inner light. While surrendering fully, our sense of time gradually disappears and our mind becomes still. Then, the body positions itself in each pose and movement without thought, and the possibility to practice without a practitioner “on the stage” arises.

About the Sequence

The practice is not related to a specific yoga method, nor does it require a certain fitness abilities. This time we’ll practice the classical sun salutation that is traditionally practiced in India.
See the video below as an example:

Everyone is welcome to experience this powerful practice. You can pause/stop at any point and continue visualize the practice while seated.

At the end of the practice, we’ll stretch our body, sit a bit and relax into Shavasana (relaxation pose).
