Melt Those Barriers Away

Instead of seeking for flow, try to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

Sometimes these barriers or dams can appear to be physical, like tight hips or shoulders, other times they appear to be mental, like fear of falling or failing.

Once you see those barriers, you can soften them until they melt away.

Try this in your next Yoga practice:

  1. While in a pose or movement, notice where you feel a barrier/dam/stagnation in flow.
  2. While attention is directed to that area soften the area. It is like releasing a fist. If you feel like nothing is being released, try to simply exhale and release your face while attention is to the area.
  3. Avoid doing so in an aim to deepen the pose or reach a certain form. Instead, become a plumber, who’s job is releasing congested pipes so flow can be restored in the congested area.
